Banter Privacy Policy

Banter (“Banter,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is operated by 1841153 Alberta LTD, a company incorporated in Alberta, Canada. It is built to turn group chat chaos into fun, shareable insights—without quietly hoarding your data. This Privacy Policy explains what data we process, how we use it, and—just as importantly—what we do not do with it.

If you’re short on time: we only process chat data you choose to upload, we don’t sell it, and we don’t store it after analysis.

1. What Data Banter Processes

Banter processes the following categories of data only when you choose to use the app:

A. Chat Data (User-Provided)

When you upload or connect a WhatsApp group chat, Banter may process:

  • Message text

  • Timestamps

  • Message counts and frequency

  • Participant display names or aliases (as they appear in the chat)

Important:
👉 Banter does not store your chat content after analysis is complete.

B. Generated Insights & Outputs

  • AI-generated summaries, stats, labels, and comparisons derived from your chat

  • These outputs are created in real time and displayed to you

Important:
👉 Generated insights are not stored with underlying chat content and are deleted when the session ends unless you explicitly save or share them.

C. Account & Technical Data

If you create an account or use the app, we may process:

  • Email address or authentication identifier

  • Device type, operating system, app version

  • General usage events (e.g., feature taps, crashes)

This data does not include chat content.

D. Analytics & Diagnostics

We collect limited analytics to keep Banter working smoothly:

  • App performance metrics

  • Error logs

  • Anonymous or aggregated usage statistics

2. How Data Is Collected

Banter only processes data that is:

  • Explicitly provided by you

  • Initiated by your action (uploading or connecting a chat)

Banter does not:

  • Secretly scrape chats

  • Monitor messages in the background

  • Access chats you haven’t selected

3. How AI Processes Your Data

Banter uses automated AI systems to analyze chat data and generate insights such as:

  • Participation patterns

  • Message trends

  • Humorous personality or “vibe” interpretations

Key points:

  • Analysis is automated

  • No human reviews your chats by default

  • Processing is temporary and session-based

4. Data Storage, Retention & Deletion (Important)

Banter is designed to minimize data retention.

  • Chat content is processed transiently

  • Chat data is automatically deleted shortly after analysis

  • We do not maintain long-term storage of chat messages

  • We do not build historical chat databases

Limited non-content operational data (e.g., error logs) may be retained for system reliability.

5. Model Training & AI Improvement

Banter does not use your chat content to train AI models by default.

We may use:

  • Aggregated, de-identified usage metrics (e.g., feature popularity)

  • System performance data

If we ever offer opt-in training using user data, it will be clearly disclosed and optional.

6. Purpose of Processing

We process data only to:

  • Generate insights and features you request

  • Maintain app functionality and security

  • Improve product performance (without storing chats)

  • Comply with legal obligations

7. Legal Bases for Processing (GDPR)

Depending on your location, processing is based on:

  • Consent (you choose to upload or connect data)

  • Contractual necessity (providing the service)

  • Legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, diagnostics)

8. Third-Party & Non-User Data

Group chats may include messages from people who are not Banter users.

  • You confirm you have the right to upload the chat

  • Banter does not contact non-users

  • Non-user data is processed transiently and deleted with the rest of the chat

9. Data Sharing & Selling

Banter does not:

  • Sell personal data

  • Share chat content with advertisers

  • Allow third parties to mine your chats

We may use trusted service providers for:

  • Cloud processing

  • App analytics

  • Security monitoring

These providers are contractually restricted from using your data for their own purposes.

10. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

  • Access information about processing

  • Request deletion

  • Object to processing

  • Request portability (where applicable)

Because chat content is not stored, deletion typically occurs automatically.

Banter is not intended for users under 13 (or 16 where required by law).
